GSD&M Idea City - The design team planned the initial 2-story building as a single complex that evokes the feeling of city streets, blocks and neighborhoods; a library; art gallery; 21st century town square and university. The 45-foot-high central atrium and lobby serve not only as a public entry and firm gathering space, but as an exhibition hall displaying the firm’s representative work. Cardno worked closely with the architect to incorporate colorful designs into the tilt-up concrete facades, and to plan the design so that the headquarters could be built in phases. The phase II expansion, a 4-story, 54,000 sf building, provides additional space for GSD&M’s growing staff.
